Workshop, class and group therapy are for people who share common issues or concerns. Attending workshop therapy can also be in addition to your individual therapy sessions. Aspen Counseling Services offers “psychoeducational” groups, classes and workshops. The goal of these groups is to provide the clients with more information about certain issues or concerns they may be facing. The topic or issues of focus are typically identified in the name of the group. For instance, Adolescent Girls Workshop and Cooperative Parenting with Blended Families Workshop are some of the workshops offered at Aspen Counseling Services. The therapist provides these workshops with specific topics to learn about and discuss. He or she will also provide you with additional resources or information.
Therapy in a group setting can be very effective for children, adolescents and adults for a variety of reasons. Along with the therapist, others in the group are able to comfort members and give their support. Alternative behaviors are learned and the identified issues can become resolved. Group therapy also allows a member to develop new ways of identifying and relating to others.
Most importantly, group and workshops are beneficial because individuals attending group realize that they are “not alone” and that others are experiencing the same issues and concerns that they are going through. For example, when a child is anxious to go to school or be around children in different settings, he realizes that other children experience anxiety for the same reasons he does. Attending an Anxiety Workshop can make him feel more at ease, learn coping skills, learn to trust others and not feel so isolated.
The workshops, classes and groups offered at Aspen Counseling Services are considered “closed." This means that you must sign up for the groups or workshops prior to them beginning. The groups and workshops start on a specified date and end on a specified date. If you would like to attend a group or workshop or enroll your child or adolescent in one, and it has already started, you are welcome to attend the next scheduled group or workshop.
